Well having parked the car and popped into Argos for 10 minutes, the car coughed again on starting and the EML lit up again. I checked the code and it was the same 314 code. Called the garage and made arrangements to have the sensor fitted.

Can't complain, the car is 14 years old this July and in the five years I've owned it this is the first "major" issue I've had other than replacing the ignition leads and disty cap at 100K miles which to a degree could be classed as a serviceable item.
