They are without doubt lower quality all around than earlier "proper" Volvo models and have components which fail tens of thousands of miles sooner than say early P2 or P80 etc Volvos.
This doesn't mean that they're "bad" cars and I'll admit it wasn't as bad as I was expecting but I'd be surprised to see many 300k miles C30s.
The D5 engine would make it but there'd be nothing left of the car to carry it.
