If the pcv isn't caught in time, oil will find it's way out of all seals not just the cam cover. Maybe see if there are other areas of leakage. I think .5 Lt of oil every 1000miles would be a fairly substantial leak, so if there are no obvious areas of oil leaking it's more than likely burning oil?
