Thank you - that is good to know. The white plastic spacer thing is a softer material than the main structure (I'm guessing a cast resin) so I rather suspected it was there to allow for some shrinkage.
That is the only gap, so I'll clean it up with some acetone then fill it up with a smidgeon of black Milliput.
