Depends. If it blows up a week after the warranty expires you can wave adios to any prospect of goodwill if you go to Bombsite Motors.

Subtract the cost of the Volvo Assist (its basically Volvo branded RAC cover worth about £200) and the service may not be as expensive as you think. In my case its always been cheaper to have a dealer service with the free cover, than to go to an independent and buy the cover seperately.

Then an independent wont give a lifetime warranty on parts, won't update to the latest software automatically (a genuine specialist rather than a mere independent might, but there aren't many about), won't automatically apply any service bulletins or low level upgrades (some years ago I got new seatbelts for free), so when all is taken into account they not usually that cheap and definietly aren't good value.
