Llambda sensor shouldn’t cost too much. He’s already spent quite a bit on replacement parts.
If one could be found, substituting a known good MAF as an experiment may help, but sourcing one may be difficult.

Sorry Ian, i should have been clearer, i was using that as an example, it could still be a fuel quality problem though, none of the cars i've owned have ever run ok on Tesco fuel and my red blocks were no exception.
However i'm wondering more as to why the battery was changed, what sort the new one is (if the old was calcium and so is the new one, that could be the problem) and whether the alternator is actually pumping out what it should.
If not then those symptoms are not unusual.
