The one "problem" with that Ian is that if the fuel filter is blocked (as some symptoms are suggesting) it will also throw the MAF sensor fault which would be a red herring - and an expensive one!
Given the battery was changed it's highly possible there is rogue data floating about in the ECU memory, hence suggesting pulling fuse #1 to clear it. Also i forgot to ask - why was the battery changed?
