have a look at the big bushes on the rear of the front suspension wishbones ..
if you drive at under 10 mph and quickly dab the brakes on and off hard you might well hear a clonk !

I'm having exactly same fault with my V50 2.0d
I've had all 4 suspension struts replaced recently as well.
garage have said drive shaft (but it checks ok) and/or gearbox differential bearing
Spent a fortune with them over last 7 months trying to sort this out
Quexstion marks over my usual garage now though as only last week they found rear engine mount gone (metal to metal) and they must have had car in at least 4 times since MOT in April
