Recently I had a wheel bearing done on my wife's Ford:~
(Mainly noise with no vibrations)
Done the usual tests as mentioned in the replies... nothing picked up, the garage gave it a road test but due to heavy local traffic the test couldn't be carried out properly.
Once on the lift the garage owner asked me how I checked the bearing- he responded by saying that rotating the wheel (forward) will not necessarily show up any faults: he rotated the wheel backwards and the rumble was very evident to include vibration into the steering arms.
