My tailgate did that on me today as well. I was just putting the charging cable back when it started to close. I moved my head out of the way, but the tailgate still hit my arm and carried on closing. I expected it to stop closing or even open again if it hit an obstacle, but apparently not. The key was in my pocket, so I assumed I had caught the button accidentally. I'll be more wary in future.
