According to Haynes if the number 3 is absent from the gear position indicator then the side button is is pressed to prevent the gearbox selecting 4th gear.While a picture shows the button on top of the selector lever no mention is made of what it does.Possibly to disengage the side button so 4th gear can once again be used? Or is it part of the shift lock to prevent the selector lever being moved out of park position unless it's pressed?
