It should be easy to track this down?
If it's the sensor under the bumper it has to have two conditions to operate. The key must be within a metre and something close enough to be spotted under the bumper. On mine, it will operate if I walk too close to the bumper with the key in my pocket.
If it's the switch in the base of the tailgate it should be pulled out and the wiring checked back to the headlining for any shorts or breaks.
