Fairlyt sure it can go either way Alan, there are holes in the bush to line up with oilways on the housing but that's radial alignment rather than axial.
If you're using a press, pushing the bush inwards to remove it would certainly be the better method than trying to push it out, unless my memory decieves me and it can only go in/out one way.
