Can any owners explain why? Which model or
year should I look for which is the £395 tax one?
Thanks

It's to do with when they are first registered.
March 2006 from memory is the change over point meaning that you could have one car registered in February 2006 paying £395 and an absolutely identical car registered March 2006 paying £695,
Another money making scam.
My D5 Euro 4 is in the £695 bracket BUT I have owned it for 6 years, know it inside out and it is still a good looking car so on that basis I pay an extra £300 a year or £25 a month more than a lower tax bracket XC90 to stick with a good car. 👍
