As long as the autobox is looked after there is no reason they shouldn't last,
Have you considered an XC70 or even an V70 AWD if you can find one,
I tow with my XC90 and they make a great tow vehicle altho there towing capacity is 2200kg so nowhere near disco or equivalent towing capacity
