I just did this job last week, so you are in luck!
1. Prise up the trim around the gear selector.
2. Release the gearstick boot from the stick (it is a ring with tabs - get a small screwdriver up inside to release it)
3. Pull the knob off (it is tight and will come off suddenly). If you don't release the boot, you will also pull the selector indicator panel up with it, strain the wires underneath and possibly ruin the interlock solenoid - ask me how I know.
4. Disassemble the mechanism in the knob (push out the hinge pin first). You will find the selector pin inside has broken away from its housing. Repair with epoxy and re-assemble.
