In my experience of a much older (2003) xc90 is that a good flush etc will greatly improve matters if not fix completely.
Mine is probably a much more problematic box and has had its issues in the past, but (touch wood) after two complete flushes in my ownership the last four years, the gearbox works fine.
I have seen said that keeping the transmission oil fresh at intervals should keep the gearbox fine.
Nb, mine is now close to 180k miles.
So I would go with the service as described.
