I've just lookled back through old threads here and discover I posted in 2009 that I had experimented on my then Torslanda (B200F engine) by carefully turning the crank by hand with the belt off and confirm classicswede's warning - the B200 engine IS an interference model, and so MIGHT damage itself if the belt broke.

Some people have been lucky, and either by chance the cam has stopped in a position where the spinning crank did not cause a valve to hit a piston, or it did hit but again by luck only gently and no damage was done.
