I guess the theory is that if all stock vehicles were limited then reliability would be increased and so would reputation etc. If someone decides to have the performance increased from another source that isnt the main dealer, the liability is with them. In the case of polestar, I guess Volvo charge that amount to take on that liability. So maybe there is both elements at play here.
Firstly if you drive around like a madman you're going to reduce mechanical life anyway - Polestar or no Polestar; secondly Polestar is a Volvo upgrade and IMHO they are less likely to overstep the boundaries of what is sensible (for the mechanicals) than other mapping specialists who may be solely out to impress with performance figures.

If you are intending to treat the cars upgraded performance with respect I'd go for it. That's how I drive and I wouldn't be without the Polestar upgrade now.
