Without wishing to be either facetious or deliberately argumentative, that seems a pretty clear answer and reasoning to me.
The dealership has only the information and advice made available to it by the manufacturer and has no incentive to take any risk on itself by going outside of that.
Clearly it is your vehicle and you're free to do with it as you see fit but that risk then lays with you. Perhaps someone here can recommend alternatives based on their own personal experience but if that's that case, you'd probably be more likely to get a response by posting in the gen 2. XC90 section rather than here (gen 1, prior to 2015).
