Another wee update, I've been running with a catch tank in the breather system for a few hundred miles. No oil to speak of in the tank but we're still using oil.
It looks more and more like something inside the engine, guessing it'll need to be stripped down at some point.
Oh, and the gearbox valve body needs replaced at some point soon
