I wouldn't use a hole saw Luke, they tend to make the holes a little on the large side like a lot!

Better with one of those above, plenty of UK sellers selling sets of 3 drills (4-12, 4-20 and 4-32mm) as well if you want the versatility of the set.

If the step length is less than the thickness of your metal, let the next step (16mm) put a chamfer round the outside of the hole that you can fill with weld for a good strong join.

Make sure you use a cutting compound while drilling (even old engine oil is better than nothing) to keep the bit cool and ease it through the metal.
