Reporting back with fitting the 140N Meyle gas strut. It works a whole lot better than the original 100N unit and if I ensure that the floor panel is raised to the full extent of the strut, it keeps it up in place. I suspect that if, like me you have a heavy rubber mat permanently in place in the load space, you'd probably do better with a 160+N unit that would hold the floor panel in place at wherever level you left it rather than having to pull it fully open to get it to stay put. But I am pleased with the replacement and it serves me well enough compared with the under powered OEM strut, which if anybody who doesn't have rubber load space liners needs a replacement OEM strut, they can have the discarded one for free if they can collect in the Bournemouth area.
