I was at a lab testing contaminated diesel (ships) with a top man in the field. he smiled when I asked the difference in fuel . he said they are likely to have come from the same import tanker, and then some companies use additives for more expensive versions of that same fuel.
Some of it is just snake oil.......and differences in performance merely perception.
