My last car was a proper performance car and you could tell straight away with the performance and engine if you weren’t using 97-99 Ron
Anyway. Last weekend I had to put 95 Ron in the Volvo when I was in a rush.
And frankly, I can’t feel any difference in performance and the engine certainly sounds and feels the same. I don’t measure mpg so not considering that.
I am genuinely wondering whether I should even bother with the higher Ron with these new Volvo engines and whether they are tuned to be able to use the extra Ron in any meaningful way...

You have, like me seen both sides, vehicles on which, you can feel and notice the difference and those on which you cannot.
If you cannot feel the difference then perhaps not worth using the more pricey option.
