If the OP wants to find a properly unreliable diesel engine look no further than the BMW N47 unit , They were horrendous, swirl flaps , timing chains ,turbos all failed with catatrosphic results at very modest mileages
Amazing a company that has consistently produced some fantastic engines could make such a hash of things
