Price you've been quoted is way OTT. The geartronic 'box failed on my V70 T5 and I was recommended to contact Sheffield Gearboxes

They refurbed the 'box and charged £1100 (from memory) and provided a 1 yr warranty. Might be to far for you to travel, but try looking for recommendations for a similar gearbox specialist (not a normal independent garage).
