hi lisa from what you've described it sounds to me like the egr valve may be at fault. I had the same issue recently where the car would not rev over 3000 rpm and was jerky under acceleration. i had removed the egr pipe to check for gunk and thjing the valve may of stayed open when i replaced the egr pipe. When i started the car for the first time after the work i received the service message and the car drove as you described. I must of been lucky as it disappeared afer i restartede the car and has not returned since fingers crossed. If its an 08 then its still under volvo warranty. return it to them and dont accept it back units sorted
