Bottom line in my opinion is if you couldn't afford to run a 30 grand plus performance car when it was new then you probably can't afford to run a used one. Always budget at least 10% of the purchase price for first year maintenance (not including tyres and scheduled servicing) just in case and hopefully you'll be sorted.
I'm very aware that if something Alpina-specific fails on my B10 I could be looking at a big bill so I make sure I've got money in the bank to cover it. If I don't need to use it then great I'm building up some savings, if I do need it then it's there. I'd take the same approach if I was running an S60R as there are some R-specific bits which will cost a ton if they do fail.
