Default How to replace indicator/wiper stalks

It is fairly easy to access the stalks for the indicators and the wipers for replacement. This first picture with the steering wheel removed is to show how they are fitted. It is not necessary to remove it.

Replacement is simple you will require a cross head screwdriver and on late models a torx driver. The first job is to remove the covers around the column. There are two screws at the top to remove:

Then this top piece can be removed:

Next the bottom piece has to be removed. It is secured by four screws. Two are on the underneath and hold it to the column:

There is then one beside the ignition switch:

And finally on the left hand side the small panel on injection vehicles that covers where the choke would be on injection vehicles should be removed to reveal the screw. On a carb vehicle the screw is located underneath the choke control.
With theses four screws removed the panel will come off. The stalks are held on with two screws each.
The indicator stalk has four wires attached to it and these should be switched in turn noting the sequence. Screw it back onto the column and check function of indicators and headlights before refitting trim.
The wiper stalk has a multiblock on it for the main wiper functions and on estates there is an extra cable with a connector block for the rear wash-wipe functions. It is possible to use saloon on an estate and vice versa but obviously you loose the rear wash-wipe function. Again check all functions after screwing on and swapping the plugs over before refitting the cover.
To refit the cover fit the top one first followed by the top one.
