Certainly worth looking at the possibility Andrew, unless the windings are completely shot (unlikely) then it should be possible to rebuild the starter.
It's almost certainly a Bosch unit, part number starting 0 100 if memory serves.
If you can get the other 6 digits i can look and see what's available still.
