Default 2001 V70 Rear Road Spring Replacement

Afternoon all,

I have just finished replacing the nearside rear road spring on my V70 and in total it took 2.5 Hours. I would like to confirm that the job is quite straightforward if you purchase the Sealey AK3842 compressor and use a piece of 110mm (3mm wall) steel tube as outlined in this thread:

The way I did it was to get the car good and high on axle stands. Mark the position of the top shock nut and how much thread protruding (10mm in my case). Mark the outside of the shock at the lower mount (so you get it back in the same way). Remove the shock.

Remove the rollover bar end link from the rollover bar. Now compress the spring. In order to remove the spring/compressor ensemble, I found I had to wedge the car scissor jack between the chassis and the lower arm (inward end, at the top) and crank it open, this articulates the lower arm down to create a big enough opening. Then the spring/compressor came out easily.

When reassembling I just put some grease on the rubber top mount to help it in, placed it on the new spring and made sure the new spring was oriented the same as the old.

I then unwound the scissor jack and then unwound the spring compressor.

Tightened up everything again.

All back together in 2.5 hours, poor conditions with pouring rain.

The worst part of the job was getting the vehicle high enough to drop the shock out the bottom of the lower arm.
