Some pictures would definitely help.
As has been said, diesel models (D24T/D24TIC) have a different radiator.
I think there are different options for intercoolers and AC radiators, which could make things appear visually different.
If you're not aware - there is the ability to attach images to the forum in the reply to post (in the 'additional options' below where you type).
Edit: the mention of the tapered radiator sides made me wonder if you received an intercooler instead. This is one of the intercooler types used, and visually appears similar to a radiator:
