When we had our boat - a small 18'6" cruiser, so not unlike a caravan - we bought a small genny to charge the batteries - leisure, not motive - and provide a modest source of mains power (600W) - when moored. While cruising, the batteries were charged via an engine driven alternator.

When we sold our boat we retained the genny and it has since proved useful on more than one ocassion when we have had a power cut.

Would such a solution work with an EV, do you think, or would the size of genny required make it impractical?

I believe thats how some of the breakdown services attend flat EV's.
