Under bonnet insulation

You think/know if there are aftermarket options?

Every car I’ve owned since the early 80s has had under bonnet sound insulation, except for my XC40, so I felt a bit deprived. My thinking was they wouldn’t have gone to the expense of designing and fitting these panels if they didn’t serve any purpose.
So I asked my Volvo dealer parts dept for a price. Their computer said there wasn’t a insulation panel for my car, but when I gave them the part number (31442796) they gave me a price of £217. In the end I bought a very clean used one from eBay for £64 and some clips for a couple of quid. It literally took 2 minutes to fit.
TBH, I’m not sure how much difference it’s made. As you say, it’s already a quiet engine and I have a very gentle right foot which keeps the revs low most of the time. Having said that, Bentleys and Rollers have extremely quiet engines and they have a massive amount of engine bay insulation. I think it’s more to do with suppressing frequency resonance, rather than actual engine noise.
