If glueing doesn't work, perhaps try a few layers of fibreglass mat with resin on the reverse side of the pocket, I think you can get colour pigments to add to the resin making it a bit less unobtrusive.
Main thing I believe is to key the base surface very well first, and perhaps also include a stiffener, old steel rule would be ideal, within the mats to further strengthen.
