that's fair enough and probably not the cause then but just for the record (and not intending to sound like a broken record or anything) it might help others as well to reiterate - the link doesn't have to be worn to knock, it can be perfectly good but not done up tight enough. a problem which is sometimes exacerbated by the difficulties of the counterhold (in my case an allen key)

agreed in your case one would assume the MOT man would have spotted it straight away.. but nevertheless I would still advise the rocking test if you haven't tried it already (and for future readers) it takes all of 10 seconds to try and eliminates the query immediately
