Id be suspicious when they told you the water pump was leaking. That is all but unheard of on the D5. The original is an over engineered, high quality unit with SKF bearings

Was it a genuine Volvo water pump they fitted? Pattern ones have a poor rep on these engines...

Also, Im presuming they replaced the aux belt at the same time? Its critical that only a genuine Volvo belt is used. Pattern ones, even from some supposedly quality manufacturers, are prone to breaking and when they do they can gather up the timing belt, with disastrous consequences.

Id be inclined to find a proper Volvo specialist, not simply an indy garage, of which there aren't that many. Wither that or a dealer. No one else knows the engines better, and no one else has access to any service bulletins concerning the engine and advising of any unsual symptoms or behaviour with the unit.
