well im no expert in any way but it certainly sounds a bit suspicious

does the record show a pass after that fail? or was that the last entry

is it possible for example the owner tried to fit a new gaiter by disassembling the old CV joint and didnt manage to put it back together properly

I dunno it seems like you'd probably get it finished off by a pro if you got to that point but who knows. or find a replacement shaft

my question would be (if that's the last MOT) how did it get to and from the mot place if the gearbox was knackered. and why would the gearbox suddenly be broken just by being left sitting for a couple of years

total guesswork may be completely off base lol
