Default V90 grip

Has anyone else experienced a lack of traction in a V90 (2wd D4 R Design) when starting on steep hills?
This has happened to me on a few occasions, where, for example, to negotiate a steep junction, I have had to do a three point turn and the wheels just spin.
I have tried using the paddles to select a lower gear, but only by persevering, adjusting steering angle and, where possible having a bit of a run at it, have I been able to get moving.
Admittedly this doesn’t happen often (once in Wales and a few times in rural Cornwall), but it has had me concerned that I would be stuck!
Any tips?
