As for the insurance, there are plenty of specialist insurance companies who will cover a modified modern classics and agree a final value reflecting the modifications & labour - so you wont just get £500 if it gets written off
Just find a good broker who will find you the best deal, it won't cost as much as you my fear, especially if you have decent no claims & a clean licence!
