Well yes it is alot of money, but unfortunately that's what owning a Volvo is all about. We love the cars , but you have to pay fairly hefty service costs.
If you want cheaper motoring than don't own a luxury brand.
If the car's out of warrenty, then I'd consider a good specialist. In theory though, even if the car is still under warrenty, any competant garage can service without invalidation, providing they work to Volvo schedule and use Volvo parts.
That said, shop around and supply your own oil. Dealers don't all charge the same and you can save at least £30 or so by providing your own oil.
I saved £60 by doing this on a 24k service on my V50.
