Good choice!
Diesel for this mileage, I don't think it didn't make too much sense. Fuel consumption is a bit better, but there are plenty of other disadvantages.
And the difference in reselling price, if you plan to keep the car for another 8 years... I don't think it would be as big as the difference on price that you have to pay now for the diesel (at least for me, diesel engine was around 1500 GBP more expensive than petrol).
Anyway, it's the never ending debate diesel-petrol... there are arguments supporting both decisions
