RE: 850 headlights
I take my T5 to france very often - have a house there.
I use "Beam Benders", rather than block the light, they bend the beam, so you don't loose drivability at night.
They're yellow which keeps in with the old Renault 5's there ;)
Don't be afraid to put your foot down on the Autoroute.
Take the Limit in KM as MPH - 10mph = Realistic Speed
Ie (130km = 130mph - 10 = 120mph)
In my experience police don't mind too much. Thats if they are around, on a recent trip I did Calais-Clermont Ferrand (500 miles ish) and only went below 110 to stop for fuel. On the whole trip (1000+) I saw only one police car.
Sometimes they try to get you on the Toll booths if your average speed is high.
