Had the day off today so I thought I would fit a new gator and a new reluctor ring, both on the same shaft. All went very well especially with using the method of using a ratchet tie to get the control arm off the strut UNTIL, and I was being careful, the inner CV joiunt ball cage separated. I've been here before and it took me hours to get it back together, but this time it took me 20 minutes to get the shaft out the journal bearing, get the balls back in the cage and have it ready for refitting. This time I used two jubilee clips and some rope to make sure the shafts could not move apart, fit the shaft back in completely and then take the rope off.....which worked well. The other method I used was to jack the car up by the strut and then attach spring clamps on the strut. Then let the jack down giving me a few more valuable inches to get the control arm off and back on.
