I'm definitely going to keep the car and get it repaired. My Volvo mechanic is convinced it's the turbo but I'm favouring stem seals. It's in the garage as we speak having a T5 turbo fitted (in the numbers match) to see if that stops the smoking. I'm also going to get my turbo recon'd because at 196k it's gotta be feeling the strain a bit.
Forte additive will also be tried with an oil flush out and change. I'll keep you posted.
