When you say the top pipe was destroyed in oil how much oil was there. As said these cars do leak out of the rubber O ring seal in the shut off valve, see Bafflers guide here http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=114946. Both my diesels have had a bit of oil in this pipe, not a lot but a bit. If you stand the pipe up on its end you might get a very small amount which has run down.

The diesels in these models are fairly easy to work on and loads of help on here. I recently bought a replacement v40 diesel and had a seized EGR valve which led to replacing the inlet manifold and removing the turbo and also a leaking fuel injector.... didn't expect either so I feel your pain! |
