I'm pretty sure that the new ETM uses a Bosch unit, that uses a completely different method of controlling the fuel. No mechanical wear and tear.
Not sure why it can not be retro fitted to ME7 cars using the MM failing unit. Some excuse about software.
Also, what about the pot used at the throttle peddal. That's going to wear out too for the same reason.
