Because of their "seamless" design and the fact they have a predefined diameter, the pressure they exert is even with no pinch points and no risk of overdoing anything.
The problem with union clips is that in certain uses, you don't know if you've done it up tight enough until you've done it up too tight.
This is why you'll mostly find oetikers or spring clips used across lots of manufacturers' fuel pipe unions.
