There is no reason why you couldn't use a 5w-40 over 0w-40 as the difference is the cold crank viscosity of 5w vs 0w which in the UK is not a problem. There is rarely a requirement for the -35c performance of 0w!
I would suggest that there are plenty of decent 5w-40 oils to choose from and you'll find a wide selection of price/quality here
